Having grown up with a close relationship to the natural world I find it impossible to think of human health as separate from the health of the planet. It seems to me that the one cannot exist without the other. With this view in mind I am interested in creating work that embodies our relationship to the planet and expresses through metaphor the sadness many people are feeling in relation to climate change and the degradation of the planet from human impact.
The fugitive soul is a work in progress, a large scale video installation for an immersive work in which poetry, in combination with the moving image, will give voice to a collective sadness.
In ‘the fugitive soul’ the artist and muse, masculine and feminine, external and internal, ego and spirit, move around each other in a circular and never ending dance that is a harbinger to a new world view and to spiritual awakening.
This work is a study for a larger work which looks at the emotional burden around climate change and the necessity for us to feel our sadness in order to be able to create the change necessary to look after the global environment.
